Integrating audio and text hints into software interfaces to help users remember shortcut keys
In this study, the effect of integrating audio cues in software interfaces and retention of keyboard shortcut keys in the short-term memory of users was investigated.
Four sets of users each viewed different versions of a video showing three tasks being performed in a software application, following which they were asked to enter the shortcut keys of the tasks being performed. Users with audio and visual cues aids remembered the shortcuts better than the other three sets of users. We conclude the study by practical recommendations of using audio integration in software interfaces to increase user performance.
